The Majestic Theater opened October 27, 1913. It was one of two movie theaters in Centerville, Iowa at the time. The Majestic operated a movie theater until the early 2000s.
The Majestic Theater has a rich and interesting history. In 1927, The Majestic became the first movie theater in Centerville, Iowa to show movies on Sundays. The local Moose Lodge used to meet in the upstairs ballroom. World-renowned opera singer Simon Estes played a key role in the history of the theater. We are grateful for the ongoing support we receive from the Morgan E. Cline Foundation to keep The Majestic a part of a thriving Appanoose County, Iowa.
